Hi friend, I'm Nicki! I was diagnosed with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome in February 2019. It is a rare and chronic kidney condition that, for me, is likely autoimmune in nature. I've had a much harder time reaching remission due to my strange variant of nephrotic syndrome...but I promised myself that I'm never going to stop trying! Documenting my journey through this blog is part of that commitment.
Even before I was diagnosed, I learned that the secret to my overall happiness and wellbeing is balance. So when the disease and initial treatments threw me completely out of whack, I learned that my kidneys were the tip of the iceberg and that there was more to my condition than I realized. I started learning about gut health and working with a root cause practitioner. Over the course of 2020 and into 2021 I've made some significant lifestyle changes that so far are helping me restore my physical and mental harmony.
In my free time I enjoy pursuing a variety of hobbies: writing, reading, horseback riding, POP Pilates, yoga, walking, cooking, making candles and volunteering for animal welfare and health causes.
I currently work a full-time job in project management, am a self-published author and hold bachelor and master degrees from Northwestern University.
I am blessed to have an amazing support system: an extremely caring family, a wonderful boyfriend, a cheerleader of a life coach, an FNTP who works miracles, a top notch nephrologist and, of course, my two cat babes: Olive and Anise!
